Karl Forest, Capitola
After attending a SqCWD workshop on rain barrel installation and information about rain catchment, Karl installed two 60 gallon rain barrels.
Karl uses lots of mulch to keep the water from evaporating in his garden and waters as much as he can with water collected from the shower, while heating up, or run-off from kitchen sink activities.
He always sets his indoor plants outside when it rains, to water them naturally. In dry periods he waters with the captured water from the rain barrels.
He also keeps a five minute timer in his shower and uses it religiously. He's found it easy to adapt to a shorter, more water efficient shower.
Karl Forest saves water in many ways, from installing a rain water catchment system to being mindful of his water use in the garden and he's in the process of replacing his lawn with drought tolerant plants and patio. He has also changed many behaviors to accommodate water saving indoors as well.
