Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board is Accepting Comments

The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Coast Water Board) is accepting comments on updated language in proposed Order R3-2023-0033, Waste Discharge and Water Reclamation Requirements, for the Pure Water Soquel Groundwater Replenishment Reuse Project, Soquel Creek Water District (Permit).

Soquel Creek Water District (SqCWD) is implementing the Pure Water Soquel Project to produce advanced treated recycled water for replenishment into the Santa Cruz Mid-County groundwater basin. SqCWD will later extract a portion of the recycled water for potable use.  The groundwater basin has been designated as ‘Critically Overdrafted’ due to seawater contamination and mandated by the State of CA to be brought back into sustainability by 2040.

Comments on the updated language are due by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. The proposed Permit will be considered for adoption at the Central Coast Water Board's meeting scheduled for December 14–15, 2023.

The Public Notice document, updated language, additional information, the proposed Permit, and directions for submitting comments can be found at the Central Coast Water Board's Tentative Orders webpage which is linked below: https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/centralcoast/board_decisions/tentative_orders/
