Mid-County Groundwater Stakeholder Meetings

 


The County of Santa Cruz, in conjunction with Soquel Creek Water District and  Central Water District have partnered together  to initiate a community conversation with private well pumpers and other community stakeholders within the Soquel-Aptos Groundwater Management Basin.  Six meetings have been held since May 2014 that have covered a broad spectrum of issues including local groundwater management activities and studies, the new Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, and next steps in locally implementing the new statewide law with community involvement.

The next meeting will be on December 10,2015.  Check back soon for date, time, and location.

Towards Sustainability...Where Do We Go From Here?

This meeting will include a brief overview of the previous groundwater stakeholder meetings, finish our interactive exercise from the December meeting, and provide an update on the state requirements of the local formation of a groundwater sustainability agency.  It will also focus on furthering public engagement and how basin users can collaboratively meet the new state laws of groundwater sustainability.

Update on State Mandated Water Restrictions and Local Activities to Forming a Groundwater Sustainability Agency

The purpose of these meetings is to meet with mid-county groundwater basin users, share information about groundwater hydrology, protection against seawater intrusion, , data collection and monitoring, water use efficiency, basin sustainability, and – most recently - how we are working towards locally meeting the requirements of the new Sustainable Groundwater Management Act that went into effect January 1, 2015.
