Water Awareness Month Poster Contest
May is Water Awareness Month!
The Soquel Creek Water District needs everyone in our community to save water. Engage your student or child in thinking about ways to save water by having them draw a poster about how they save water, or how they avoid wasting water. The “Our Water is Groundwater, Together Let’s Protect It” poster contest is open to 4th and 5th grade students in the Soquel Creek Water District. Get started by clicking here to print out the instructions and registration sheet and turn in an original drawing by May 28th. Art will be on display throughout the summer to encourage and educate visitors to the Soquel Creek Water District’s office to save water.

The 2012 grand prize went to Zachary Parrish, a fifth grader at Soquel Elementary in Patrick Foster’s class. He received a check for $50 and a water drop trophy. His poster says “Life Began in Water, Life Will End without It. Shorten Your Shower.”
Two students were awarded the runner-up prize: Madelyn Guy and Odalis Dominguez. Both are from Mar Vista School in Susan Nunes’ fifth grade class. They both received a check for $25 and a water drop trophy. Madelyn Guy’s poster shows a baby-like water drop and says “Conserve Water it’s Precious.” Odalis Dominguez’ poster shows 2 scenes with Popeye wasting water and using the water to drink and fill up his muscles.
Mrs. Susan Nunes, the fifth grade teacher of the runner-up award winners from Mar Vista School, received a $25 gift certificate to Kaleidoscope, The Parent Teacher Store, for submitting the most entries. The first place student’s teacher, Patrick Foster, a fifth grade teacher from Soquel Elementary, received a $25 gift certificate to Kaleidoscope, the Parent Teacher Store.
The winning posters will be printed in the District's newsletter, What's On Tap, and displayed in the District's lobby at 5180 Soquel Drive in Soquel throughout the summer to encourage water conservation. Come on by the office to see the posters on display.

The 2010 first place prize went to the poster entitled Save Water! by Andrew Schumacher, a fourth grader at Soquel Elementary.
Second place went to the poster entitled Did You Really Turn It Off? by Kathryn Bockman, a fifth grader at Mar Vista Elementary.
Third place went to the poster entitled Every Drop Counts by Tyler Best a fifth grader at Mar Vista Elementary."
The 2009 winners are Kyara Magua, Siinn Rho, Rileigh Knight, and Margaux Elliott.
