Water Awareness Month Poster Contest

In recognition of May as Water Awareness Month, the District holds an annual “How I Conserve Water” poster contest for 4th and 5th grade students in Soquel Creek Water District. Entrants are asked to create a colorful drawing and slogan that explains why water is so important and how we can conserve it.  The posters help promote water conservation awareness both for the artists and the people who see the art on display.

For information about entering a drawing in the poster contest, please contact Vai at vaidehic@soquelcreekwater.org or (831) 475-8500, ext. 142.  Click here for 2011 contest rules and information.

The 2011 grand prize went to Camryn Martin, a fifth grader at Main Street School.  Her colorful poster showed kids playing in the sprinklers with a clever message above stating, "I Know it's Fun but You're Wasting a Ton."  She received $50 and a water drop trophy.

The runners up were Sophia Handley, a fifth grader at Soquel Elementary and Mikaela Greenberg, a fifth grader at Main Street Elementary.  Sophia Handley did a beautiful blue-toned water color with a sparkling water drop in the center with the message, "Water is a Limited Resource.  Use it Well."  Mikaela Greenberg had a bold and useful message, "Quick Showers Save Flowers," which displayed a running showerhead.  Each runner up received $25 along with their water drop trophies.

The grand prize winner's teacher, Mrs. Salerno from Main Street School, received a $25 gift certificate to Kaleidoscope for her support of the contest.  Thank you to all the 2011 participants and their parents and teachers for promoting water conservation, an endeavor in which we all win!

The winning posters will be printed in the District's newsletter, What's On Tap, and displayed in the District's lobby at 5180 Soquel Drive in Soquel throughout the summer to encourage water conservation.  Come on by the office to see the posters on display.
