Project WET

The District offers Project Water Education for Teachers training once a year. Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an international water education program for educators of students in grades K-12 that is sponsored by contributions from diverse public and private organizations and state sponsors.

The next Water Education for Teachers workshop will be held on February 25, 2012, from 9 am -3 pm at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, 400 Encinal Street, Santa Cruz. The workshop includes:

Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide (K-12th grade)
The Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide is a collection of over 90 innovative, interdisciplinary activities that are hands-on, easy to use, and fun. The activities incorporate a variety of formats including whole body activities, large and small group learning, co-operative learning, laboratory investigations, local and global topics and involvement in community service projects.

Developed, field-tested, and reviewed by over 600 educators and resource managers working with 34,000 students nationwide, Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide activities promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills and help provide young people with the knowledge and experience they will need to make informed decisions regarding water resource management.

California Environmental Education Initiative Curriculum (EEI)
A new, state-approved replacement curriculum that uses environmental educational concepts to teach the California state standards to mastery.  The units on water for 4th to 6th grade will be highlighted.

Watershed Cruzin':  An Activity Guide to Santa Cruz County Watersheds
Classroom and field-based science activities for 4th -12th grade to help students explore their local watersheds.

The Benefits of a Workshop
Participants will be trained in the basics of how to use Project WET materials as well as the other curricula. Each seminar participant will receive a copy of the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide Book. The guide provides thorough and accurate background information, procedures that are easy to follow, materials that are readily available and teaching strategies that engage students and appeal to diverse learning styles. The Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide is only available through Project WET workshops.
