To help you, the Soquel Creek Water District offers free water education materials (provided courtesy of the California Department of Water Resources), curriculum, field trips, and teachers  workshops to educators in our service area.

Our Water Works in Santa Cruz County
(5th and 6th grade)

An activity book about our County's fresh water resources. This book was published in 2007 by water agencies in Santa Cruz County to answer the 5th grade question, "what is the origin of the water used by their local communities". Other concepts covered in the activity booklet are the water cycle, water as a molecule, watersheds, groundwater, water treatment, pollution prevention, the history of a creek, rainfall measurements, water use and water conservation tips.

There is also a colorfully illustrated fold out map of the County's watersheds.

(Grades K-2)

Simple puzzles and matching activities teach students about water use, the importance of clean water, the forms water takes, and the water cycle.

All About Water, Water Activities
(K-3)

A teacher's guide containing 26 integrative hands-on lessons. Major themes addressed are Systems and Interaction, Energy, Stability and Scale and Structure. A storyline can be used to connect the lessons using puppets and scenery.

A colorful comic book character leads students through the water cycle, showing them how water is delivered through California's built and natural water systems to the end users. Available in English and Spanish.

(Grades 5-8)

A comic-book story about Captain Hydro, hero of water conservation, with 39 pages of readings, worksheets, and projects that teach the water cycle, the uses of water, water treatment, conservation, management, and water quality testing. Captain Hydro continues to battle the Water Bandit. The teacher's guide is a resource of reproducible student worksheets and lessons about water in the context of World History and Geography (Ancient Civilizations to 500 A.D.) Includes a glossary of water terms and answer key.

Four hands-on water science activities developed by teacher Gil Yee. Demonstrates the world's distribution of water, surface tension and water pressure. Includes directions for a solo cup rain gauge.

(Grades 4-6)

4 Sample Lessons developed by AIMS; Includes a cooperative card game to expose students to a variety of interesting facts about water, followed by a series of four activities that introduce some of the properties of water. Could be used in conjunction with the FOSS science kit on Water.

Discover California's Water, Board Game
(Grades 4-6)

Colorful 17" X 22" playing board is a map of California's major water systems. Players take turns moving around the state by answering water questions. The object of the game is to land on and check off six sources of surface water in California.
